The technical solution for the diGItal project
Electronic product leaflets enable fast access to current, officially approved medicinal product information in structured form, thereby supporting modern, patient-oriented healthcare. The EPL system stores these package leaflets in structured form together with relevant metadata and makes them available to authorised users and connected systems securely, efficiently and always in the most up-to-date version. This sustainably improves the availability, currency and digital usability of package leaflets
The EPL system
The EPL system serves as the central storage location for package leaflets for medicinal products in Germany. Manufacturers can upload their package leaflets and store them in FHIR format.
The EPL system outputs these package leaflets in structured form to health insurance funds and other authorised bodies: up to date, as officially approved, advertising-free.
Storage and management in the FHIR format agreed with the EMA enables structured and targeted use of package leaflet information.
The EPL system was developed as part of the diGItal project and is the technical solution for providing digital package leaflets within the project.
